Hi Ricardo and Jeff, I have been on Tasigna for over 6 months now. Gleevec quit working for me and I went into blast. When I first started Tasigna, I had a lot of problems. My counts all dropped and I had to have 2 transfusions. There are several things that the doctor has to keep an eye on, but finally, I had the best ever blood test in my last testing. There are risks and side effects on any of these cancer drugs, but we each have our own, and sometimes they are alike and sometimes not. I have to say, I have not missed the swollen eyes that went with Gleevec. I finally look like myself again. I do have the fatigue, but I'm not that young anymore hehe. I have a little nausea if I don't eat when I'm supposed to. With Tasigna, you can't eat 2 hours before the meds and then you have to wait 1 hour after you take it to eat; just the opposite of Gleevec. I don't think they give you Tasiga unless you have failed on Gleevec, at least that what it says, unless they've changed that. Many CML WARRIORS are dong just fine on Gleevec and don't want to change. My oncologist told me his patients on Gleevec were fine and he couldn't believe it quit working for me. Jeff, In fact, the side effects depends not only by the drug but by the person. The rule of thumb is if you're fine with your drug just keep going. There are a lot of people that deal fine with gleevec ( like my son) - for these cases I think that the good advice is just keep going. But there are some that have serious side effects and should change. You are a lucky guy for getting along with tasigna, because. like gleevec, there are a lot of people with serious side effects as well.
