I don't want to start any battles here or even contribute to them but
as someone who has had CML for over 9 years I must admit to having
trouble understanding when people bash our government all the time but
thank Jesus. The researchers who discovered Gleevec were primarily
funded (for many years) by US taxpayers. We have our government to
thank for the fact that we get to live many years after diagnosis.
People were getting CML for thousands of years before we ever lived
and I'm sure many if not most were praying. Why would God ignore all
the people who died because they were diagnosed prior to Gleevec and
then suddenly decide to help those of us now? I don't think I'm
better than those people. If religion gives you comfort that is good--
as long as it doesn't keep you from giving thanks where thanks are
due.

I thank all those who have donated to cancer research and I advocate
that this kind of funding will continue. If you are a US taxpayer--
thank you for funding cancer research!

Dorothy
