Hi Marcie, I am sorry to have to welcome you into this CML group. I would much rather welcome you to a wonderful party or cruise, but the fact remains that you have this disease and I think that you have come to all of these wonderful people on this site, and their knowledge will be of great help to you.
Thank you for the compliment of you saying that I said something brilliant. Marcy, maybe you would like to tell this to my wife Shelly? [?] All kidding aside, there are a lot of people on this site that know a lot more then me about Gleevec, one being my good friend Zavie Miller. You have to remember that I had a bone marrow transplant and never used Gleevec, so I can't know about anything other then I see or read about. When Gleevec first came out it was called STI-571 and it was in limited production by a company called Novartis. In those days I was on another CML group and asked everyone that would like to support Novartis buy their stock. Since their stock at the time was about $12,000 a share I suggested that they buy the American Registry shares that were selling for about $20 at the time. Not so much for making money on this stock, but to support the company. Shortly after Novartis started marketing it and it was approved by the FDA and was given the name Gleevec. I purchased a lot of those American Registry shares at $20 per share, and would never sell them. I did this as I also asked everyone to do it to show support for Novartis, and it is now $54.430 a share (as of my last statement December 31St) I will never sell this stock because of my support for this fine company. When I had CML it was in the year of 1989 and Gleevec was not yet discovered. I would have chosen Gleevec over that bone marrow transplant hands down, but it was many years later that Dr. Druker discovered it. If you want to call someone brilliant then Dr. Druker should be the one... In any event, I again wish all those with CML and any other cancer for that matter; to become healthy and happy once again.
