Hi Suzieq, don't worry about having the bottom I had one last year, they put you in la, la, land. The worst part is the drink the night before. Stay CLOSE TO THE BATHROOM. I'm will have to stay on Gleevec for ever also. Take care Greenie -----Original Message----- Date: Monday, January 25, 2010 6:46:48 pm To: "CMLHope" <[email protected]> From: "Suzieq" <[email protected]> Subject: [CMLHope] Six Month's Visit to Dr.
Hi fellow CML'ers: Had my six month check up today....all went well except parking garage was extremely backed up and took at least twenty-five minutes just to park. No problems in lab....actually was pleasant for a change. Could be the lady of color across from me getting blood work done who kept me in stitches the whole time. (smile) The doctor afterwards went quite well, have lost six pounds according to them since the last time (Aug. '09). I know I've lost more because of some added weight since that time, so that means I've lost that plus six more pounds. Yea!!! CBC all looked good...still running a little on the anemia side, but really no change. Platelets were actually up to 201...don't think they've ever been that high in past six years with CML. Doc talked with me about how I always show a little bit of CML in each PCU test, but very small amount and because of that, she would never take me off of it as she was positive it would come right back. I told I understood that and really didn't expect to go off. She also said that with my results being the way they have been over past years, she really doubted that the Gleevec would fail me. That kind of made me feel good. So, now wait for PCU testing which takes them 10 days to 2 weeks for some reason, but that's ok. On another note....I talked to her about having a CT scan or what ever to determine this pain in my left side. It has never ever left me in all these six years and actually the past week or so, feels worse. Hurts from under rib cage down. She felt around and said she seriously doubted it is the spleen (which now has me worried cause that is what we've thought all this time).......anyway, she has set me up for the scan next Monday and then she mentioned that wonderful word we all love to hear when we go over 50 years of age, "Colonoscopy" (hehehehe). I told her my primary dr. wanted me to have one last year, but I put him off cause of the hospital he wanted to send me to. So, if she will go ahead and set it up for me up there, I'll do it. The big reason I decided to pursue this, we just buried a 52 year old lady from our church last Friday who had had problems over past several weeks with her eating (take one bite and would be in severe pain or run to bathroom). The pain finally became so severe a week ago Saturday, her husband rushed her to the local ER. They found her pancreas inflamed as well as her white blood count off the page. Dr. tried to do a scope the next morning and could not get anywhere because of "pus and infection", so he cut her opened and sewed her right back up. Came out and told her husband she was not going to make it because the blood had been blocked from her colon(it was now black, he said), therefore, it was just gone as was her intestines & infection everywhere. All caused by a blockage to the main artery leading to the colon. Was so very sudden and sad. He told her husband the only way they would have found this was "cutting her open". But, she had known for weeks something was wrong and was "stubborn" and would not keep her appointments. All could have been prevented if she just had followed through. After hearing all of this, got me to thinking about this pain in my side all of these years....may not be a thing, but might also be something they could fix and I wouldn't have the pain anymore, too. So, I told the Dr. today, this was for my own peace of mind. Will keep you posted and prayers are welcomed (always).
