I babysat the nurse lady's son who was my son's age. Her boy had severe Asthma, so she was very well knowledgeable on all steriods. :) My mother has been on a very low dose of Prednisone since '06 when she was dx'ed with auto-immune disease of the platelets.....she got down to 0 & was in much trouble...was about six weeks of IV treatments and then went on the low dose pred. and now take a half every other day, I believe it is. It's the only thing that keeps her platelet count up. She also knows the danger of long term use, as well. My stepfather had severe emphysema and was on it for several years......she was his primary care giver. My husband was diagnosed with CML three years ago and is on Gleevec. Two months ago, he developed shingles and has been in pain ever since. Does the pain ever go away? He has tried Lidoderm Patches, Lyrica, Neurontin, and Oxycodone. The only thing that offers any temporary relief is the Oxycodone, but he can't take that at work-- so he suffers. I would like to hear from anyone with CML ( or leukemia) who has experienced this. Thank you. My mother had several aloe plants and squeezed the gel fresh out of the leaves. He swore by it. That problem went away and the TENS unit went into the closet for many years until he brought it out in an attempt to lessen pain from an episode of shingles. After experimenting a bit on the positioning of the electrodes he was successful in arresting the pain. If TENS isn't a familiar term you might check it out on Wikipedia for a start. Please follow all cautions and check with your doctor. Good luck.
