I too was diagnosed in February and began Gleevec at 400....I tried to stay
on Gleevec but experienced such severe side effects at the therapeutic dose
that I was placed on Tasigna....I got my heart checked every two weeks the
first few months...and whenever there has been a doseage change...Tasigna
has been much better that Gleevec, no swelling, IBS, etc..I have far more
energy....the skin rashes do get better with time and there are things you can
take for them, constipation for me but mes help that........if your sugars go
up...you can take meds for the diabetes..I became a diabetic on the
Tasigna..was not before...but try not to let that scare you..learning to
control
sugars with medication taken with the Tasigna and throughout the day...has not
been bad...I want to stay on Tasi truly, but for me, it's affecting my
liver enzymes too much..I am very sensitive..this dose not happen often...so I
am on the way to Sprycel..I am scared as well..but as MIllie said, we need to
find what works for us the best out of the options....sometimes, the
oncologists will decide to lower the dose to what is tolerable for our systems
as
long as we are in remission...it' s a balancing act..I wish you well..try
not to fear too much..it may surprise you....it may be much easier for you and
may not effect yoru heart any different that Gleevec...have your heart
checked regularily to ease your anxiety....no one can predict what side
efffects
you will or will not have because everybody responds differently to these
meds...remember, you are not alone...we are here...My best to you, Beth
