I have been off gleevec 400 mg per day for about 2 yrs now, but Arkansas BC/BS
was paying about $2700.00 per month at that time, now that I'm on Sprycel,
BC/BS is paying about $4,200.00 per month for 70 mg per day. I was lucky that I
had drug coverage on BC/BS.

After doing a cost analysis on the cost difference between Arkansas BC/BS and
Medicare I have decided to stay on BC/BS, because I will save about $4,000.00
dollars more than if i had gone with Medicare with part D. In case some of you
are unaware, (I know I wasn't aware) Medicare has started means testing
Medicare effective January 1st 2011. It won't effect many people since the
trigger was is set quite high for married filing jointly, but the point is it
was slipped in in some other bill, and I don't think anyone knew it was there.
It seems strange that everyone paid in the required medicare payroll deductions
their entire life and now that it's time to use it, the government will make
some pay twice as much more than others to use it. All because the Government
(both parties) spent the money all these years on programs that would get them
re-elected. After all we all know that re-election was more important than
providing the coverage in our senior years that we paid for for the last 40
years. I expect the same will happen eventually to Social Security.
