Thanks Marcie, Yes they told my sister the surgery was the only thing they
could do for her now. She opted for pain meds but she is 81 this year.
Good Luck,

Hi Jeanie:

I don't think I had a pet scan. That is different than a nuclear stress
test, isn't it? If so, no, they did not perform one. I'm so sorry you still
have the pain, as I well know how debilitating and scary it is. My rib cage
and chest is better over the course of the last week but bone pain
elsewhere is off the charts. My husband keeps telling me "getting old is not
for
sissies" and while that is true, I just turned 60, hardly ancient!

My internist wants me to see a cervical spine ortho specialist but I feel
like that is opening the door to someone telling me I need surgery. So I'm
taking pain meds as infrequently as possible and trying to go about life
just being grateful that it is not worse.

Please let me know how you do and if you find any answers. I'll keep you
in my prayers.

Hi Marcie and thanks so much for getting back to me. No it hasn't gone
away. It has been giving me pain everyday. I think it is the rib cage as I
have had heart test, lung test and all just like you. Treating my pain
with Tramadol and ice.
Did you have a pet scan?
I had an MRI and it showed nothing.
I think it is inflamed rib cage and it's bad to know there is no cure just
as our CML. It got really bad on Tasigna. That was when I had the MRI.
Let me know if you find out anything else.
Thanks,
Jeanie<3

Hi Jeanie:

I had terrible pain below my breastbone, seemed like the left side and
possibly the heart except that I had no heart attack symptoms (I googled
women's heart attack symptoms). The pain was constant and when it reached a 9
out of 10, I called my doctor and went to the ER. They knew immediately it
was not a heart attack from the EKG but admitted me, in large part I think,
because I am a CML patient. I had an EEG, echocardiogram, MRI, chest
x-ray, the works. I learned that my heart is in excellent condition!

As they ruled out anything heart related, and my lungs were clear, and
they found nothing to justify the intense pain, the doctors came up with
costochondritis. If you google it, you find that it is inflammation of the
rib
cage along the chest wall, no particular cause and no cure other than
ibuprofen or acetaminophen or an opiate/narcotic painkiller. It has been
nearly
4 weeks since I was hospitalized and I still have occasional pain, some
that I can ignore and some that I need that narcotic relief to get by. Also,
my blood work was fine so this is not an issue where I could blame it on
an infection in the chest.

I have so much bone and muscle pain that I just assume it is from 3 1/2
years on Gleevec. Maybe it is not, I do have lots of arthritis, but I never
experienced bone pain like I have until I went on Gleevec. Costochondritis
doesn't show up on any tests so perhaps this is what you had. I hope that
it has gone away for you and never returns.

Best wishes to you and keep me updated.

Marcie

Hi, I have side pain that seems to be in my ribs. I wonder if this is
what I have. It hurt me so bad when I was put on Tasigna that I had to have a
pain killer. They put me on Tamadol. I had an MRI and nothing showed up
but that didn't mean it wasn't there.
How did you side get?
