I too am a patient at siteman with both dr. Khoury and Cashen. I was
diagnosed in the emergency room with a 390,000 WBC. Wonderful dr. Khoury gave
me
a chance 2 b in the first gleevec study bcaus of my er stats that he looked
at 9 months later. Thank God for the last 11 years at Siteman.

I will be the same as you, Ms. Jeanie! My Mom always reminds me I called
her on her birthday, Feb. 6th, 2004 and told her about the dx'es. I don't
remember the exact date, but that's probably right. I started going to
the doctor for the pain in my side about the 2nd week of January. Was
treated for what the Doctor thought was a severe case of Diverticulitis
because
I went for the awful pain in the left quadrant side under breast which was
the Spleen being tripled in size, but did not find that out till he sent
me for a 2nd opinion after the 2 weeks of antibiotics that didn't help and
he could still feel a hard mass where he pressed. The new doc sent me
downstairs for a CBC and set me up for a CAT scan. Honey, he called me that
night around 7:00 freaking out cause my White Blood Cells were off the page
and
he was going to send them to another Lab to be counted and told me I had
something really, really bad wrong with me. My husband wasn't home and I
broke down. What doctor in his right mind would call a patient up at home in
the evening and tell them this kind of news over the phone. I went in the
next day for the CAT scan, of course it showed the Spleen, but the next
after noon, my doctor calls me back to tell me what the dx'es was as he had
gotten the results from the WBC count and it was almost 300,000. He sent
me to an Hem./Onc. and took another three weeks and a very horrific BMB in
his office without anything but 2 Lorazopam and 2 Percocets.....I felt
every bit of what he did. The BCR-ABL came back positive, so was put on
Gleevec (400mgs.) and have been on that till up to the first of this year,
was
cut down to 200. I have been "none detected" for past two and half years,
am hoping to stay that way! My husband was able to pull strings and get
me into Sitemen Cancer Center in St. Louis at Barnes Jewish Hospital not
long after being put on the Gleevec. I had a wonderful doctor in Hannah Khorey
who left after my sixth month there to go to Emory University Hospital in
Atlanta. Since then, I had three different doctors, but have been with Dr.
Amanda Cashen since June or July of 2005 and have loved her very much. I
love the Center there. The most compassionate & professional people I've
ever been around.

Thanks Jeanie, for taking me back down memory lane. God is good, that's
for sure.
Love to all and please, Keep Looking Up,
Suzieq
