Jerry A. Mayfield Funeral Services for Jerry A. Mayfield, 65, of West Monroe, LA will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 10, 2013 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe, LA with Dr. Dwight Munn and Rev. Purvis Rodriguez officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Calhoun, LA.
Jerry was born on June 10, 1948 in Camden, AR and passed away on August 6, 2013. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Jerry retired from the Louisiana State Police after 21 years of service. During his time with Troop F in Monroe, LA, he served as Road Trooper and Shift Supervisor. At the time of his retirement, Jerry served as Sergeant. Following his retirement, he worked with Basic Your Best Buy, specializing in computer and IT work. Jerry was a computer and technology enthusiast. He turned his knowledge into a resource following his diagnosis of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) in 1999. Jerry's desire to learn more and help others led him to developing a website and blog that has been visited by thousands of CML patients and their families. His perseverance provided opportunities to build long and special friendships with other patients and their families while he also was being treated for CML. He saw the launch of several new drugs. Drugs he had taken as a clinical trial patient. Jerry was invited to and attended an event in Portugal to share his CML journey. He enjoyed traveling with friends and seeing new places. Jerry was passionate about life and lived it to its fullest. He stood by his convictions and could be counted on to be there for those he loved. He loved his family and friends and will be greatly missed. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, James Arnold and Oma B. Mayfield; and his father-in-law, Miron Fuller. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Karen Fuller Mayfield; mother-in-law, Frances Fuller; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Daren and Beth Fuller; nieces, Angela, Christina, Felicia and Erica Fuller; great niece, Saydee Fuller and many special friends. Pallbearers will be Gregg Gossler, Randy Beckham, Jimmy Long, Charles Sutton, Kevin Whitlock and Jim Boltin. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, August 9, 2013 at Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe, LA. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or to the Humane Society.
