Hi all - September is celebrated by many as Blood Cancer Awareness Month, or as Leukemia Awareness Month, or as both. The date of September 22, or 9/22, is celebrated as World CML Day in many countries and as CML Awareness Day in the US. The date represents the genetic change of Chromosomes 9 and 22 that causes CML.
For US patients, the National CML Society is hosting *A National Day of Advocacy* in Washington, D.C. to bring greater awareness to the issues faced by US CML patients, including discriminatory practices which result in higher co-pays for oral cancer treatments. Lawmakers will be encouraged to support the Cancer Drug Parity Act of 2013. To learn more about this, and to participate, please visit this link: http://www.nationalcmlsociety.org/event/national-day-advocacy-washington-dc For all CML patients, the member organizations of the CML Advocates Network are hosting *World CML Day *activities, which include an opportunity for patients to submit their own video about their personal CML journey. For more information on the global World CML Day events, and to participate, please visit this link: http://www.cmladvocates.net/worldcmlday/worldcmlday2013 I hope those who participate in CML and/or Leukemia awareness activities will share your plans, stories and activities with others. It's one thing to hear a doctor say you can live well with CML, but hearing that from a fellow CMLer has much more meaning and impact.
