HI Jeanie.  Good to hear from you.  My Wife had her cateract operation 
years ago,  I have lost most of my far vision, but when I failed the Glare 
test (niht vision) in both eyes is the reason my optomoligist said now is 
the time.  Since I have CML, he  was over the top making sure the operation 
was not going to become infected and cause blindness. He feels that is the 
most danger when the operation is perormed.
