Hi B W, If you are disabled which i believe you are having CML then you must file for medicare immediately because it can take up to two years to become enrolled but you should first get a letter from your doctor stating what your situation is and go down to the closest Social Security office and start everything going. Sometimes your coverage may start shortly after you file. And the reason that you should file now is because if your denied and you file again then those payment checks will be retroactive from when you first filed..
One of your benefits will be a check every month for the rest of your life as long as you are disabled, and if you ever decide to return to work then all they would do is to still send you a check that will cut down depending what you are making from your job. if you have any problems just contact your local Social Security office and make an appointment. They are very nice people so just gather all of your records and bring them along. If all else fails simply get an attorney and he of she will do everything for you. By the way they will or should not charge you a fee until you get onto Medicare and then their fee is usually the payment that you will receive but only for one month.
