Dear Norm,

Thanks for your post. And to Greenie and your wife in Fort Myers. I hope you
both are safe, and to everyone else who is in Houston, or Florida or wherever
this storm passes through.... Just know that lots of people are thinking about
you and praying for you. I know I am. These natural disasters are and can be
so devastating. Then, if you are medically fragile or ill etc.unable to be
moved, it is even more traumatic. Thinking of all my cml buddies here and
sending you love.

18's

Beth

Subject: [CMLHope] Greetings from the land of Harvey

I do not get to post often but wanted to wish all of the group the best and to
check on Jeanie and the rest of the Floridians.
We did not flood at my home or office but there are still areas that are not
accessible because of flood waters.
You would think that the flood waters would be gone by now but the reality is
that we had 40" of rain as measured at our rain gunge and some areas had much
more.
There was very little wind damage here in Houston but I now have a much better
understanding of the 40 days and 40 nights that Noah experienced.

We have two lakes that supply our drinking water, Lake Conroe which is upstream
from the second which is Lake Houston. Lake Conroe is north of Houston and Lake
Houston is northeast of Houston.
There are two flood control dams, Addicks and Barker Cypress that are to the
West of Houston. Much of the worst flooding was caused by the release of water
from the dams at Lake Conroe, Addicks, and Barker Cypress. People that had
never flooded ever, flooded. Addicks and Barker Cypress was within about a foot
of being over-topped. They had no choice but to release the water.

Some talking heads have criticized our mayor for not evacuating people but
historically more people have died from being in their vehicles than from being
at home during a flood. A comparison would be to evacuate the whole state of
Florida that would be concentrated in our metropolitan area. He did the correct
thing. People that live in areas that are known to flood generally will self
evacuate after putting as much of their belongings out of harms way.
Unfortunately for many the floods were so much worse than ever before.

You are all in my prayers.

Houston strong
Norm
