The lack of LiveConnect support is a Microsoft IE issue on Mac, not Apple's
fault. Microsoft say that there is "no customer demand" for this feature
apparently.
We rang into the same problem with our editor (Ephox EditLive! for Java)
about 18 months ago and we have managed to solve it using some JNI calls
back into Mac OS X.
So on the bright side it is one of our competitive advantages until
Microsoft solves the problem :)
The other way to solve the problem would be to get the content to be saved
directly to and from your server from the editor (ie. using HTTP, WebDAV or
FTP) but if you are looking for tight integration with web-based forms this
approach has some issues.
