<rant> Yes WebDAV should work but it doesn't and I'm _not_ baffled. Frankly, I really hate Macromedia. And there is reason for it. I've built at least a dozen fully interactive (sometimes full games that have sold 50000+ copies) with Director, built millions of Flash pieces and done the craziest things with Cold Fusion... I wouldn't touch Dreamweaver with a 10 foot pole even though I've been forced to use many many times. I've always encountered bugs or bad architecture decisions. It always doubled our development time. The worst part is I think Macromedia was in the best position possible to take over on the web. Instead, they made some silly sales driven decisions (keeping Flash and Director as seperate products etc) and just haven't been able to take that step they've been trying to take for years. I still don't think they understand it. They could be so much but are so little. Contribute to me is just another sales guy saying (and not knowing that they already have products that do what it does), "we need something new to sell"... And future releases will just be more bug fixes... Oh the good old days of www.updatestage.com and coming up with creative ways to work around Macromedia's dreaded "bug-fields". Fortunately, XML/XSL have encouraged the buzz-word management people to start thinking "maybe we need to make these products talk to each other more" so we'll see how Director MX looks. IMO, they are about 2 years too late. .NET beat them to the punch. K, Nuff ranting. Sorry. Hit a nerve. </rant>
Lets just stop talking about (or suggest) Contribute please? It is no where near a CMS and there are many systems for the same price that do so much more. http://www.doitlive.com/ comes to mind. Anyone on this list work on that? For the price, I am very very impressed. Please contact me offlist if you are involved or have used the system. What else... who here is in the 100-200 price range? I'm sure we can come up with a good list of products. We unfortunately don't fit in the range but are considering releasing a "light" version. I mean just by being a web-based product is one step up from the client-based Contribute. a. I couldn't get it to work with Dreamweaver MX. It looks like Macromedia, for some strange reason, just has a thing against encryption. It's kind of baffling to me. -- - Adam -- http://cms-list.org/ trim your replies for good karma.
