for taxonomies, depending on your budget, you can consider Inktomi Content
Classification Engine (CCE) or, if your budget is even bigger, Inktomi
Classifier (former Quiver solution) - since you said you were using IES
already.

Note that Inktomi enterprise search has recently been acquired by Verity.

for very complex ontologies, you might want to have a look at:
http://www.ontoprise.de => requires a pre-built index (standard connector to
altavista, inktomi possible).

I want to know the generic architecture of a search engine and different
types of search engines available.
I want to know all the vendors giving evaluation copies.

The same information i want for the taxanomy engines.
