A new Infoworld article describes some of the XML-related features of Word 11 (cf. http://www.infoworld.com/articles/pl/xml/03/01/06/030106plplatforms.xml )
Apparently Word 11 will support constraining input according to an XML Schema, which would be a huge step forward. This will address at least some of the issues James points out. At 20:00 02/01/2003, James Robertson wrote:
I have used, developed and seen a number of Word-based solutions, and barring some major improvements in Word 11, they just don't work. This is why Word shouldn't be used: * No format restrictions. Users can do anything they like, regardless of whether it can be published into the required formats. * Huge amounts of VBA coding is required to constrain Word into something usable.
