below my very short comments if it's helpful

1. I think a CM is broader than a WCM. For example, CM could be document management
that manage documents in such way you can manage versions, work flow, authoring,
publishing, indexing and so on. A WCM is more for web content and it manages content
in such way that more detailed level of web elements (text, or chuck of text,
graphics, links, attachments such as documents, and so on)
2. I think the role of a non-technical libn is critical in building CMS - in areas
such as information auditing, information model, metadata and so on which are
foundation pieces of CMS.

Subject: [cms-list] CM vs WCM

Hello,

I am a librarian by profession, and lack programming knowledge. My questions may seem
very preliminary to most of u on the list.

But CM is very critical to my profession. I need some pointers on the following -

- Firstly, whts the difference between CM and WCM - if both manage online content.
Does WCM exclusively cater to dynamic web-pages?

I think

- Any references which cover CM strategies for Library and Information Science (LIS).
I get to read a lot on Digital Libraries but
the focus on CM is narrow or fragmental.

- To what extent can non-technical libns help in building a CMS?

Many thks n rgds
