The chronological order is different in many cases. Those extra stages often have been created because common idioms required complicated plumbing and did not perform as good as possible (things like 'addrdw' and 'insert' for example). And sometimes it's necessary to not depend on plastic pipes. There is normally no desire to add function to spec if it's already available through some other stage (John declined my asking to put juxtapose, synchronize and gather all in spec). Rob
