Bob,
are you aware of the Stackless Python project.   It's main goal is to be able 
to implement co-routines and other similar exotics (continuations, generators)
by going stackless - ie bypassing C limitation of only being able to have a 
single stack frame.
They're getting pretty far along with some production implementations.  You 
might like to take a look.  Would be very cool if you could benefit from this.

It will be a while before it is available, but it will run on any
platform on which Python runs.

And will not require any other resources.
