FWIW I am leading an open source project that is creating a Python
version of pipelines. It will probably be a long time before it has all
the features of the CMS version. At this point development is not
dependent on any source, but rather on the specifications as found in
the Author's Edition.
Users will be able to write their own stages in Python. REXX support is
provided via REXX-like Python functions. Stage writing will be easier
than in the CMS version.
Since Python runs on almost all platforms this will be a truly
cross-platform product.
