I use Steve's stage for Xagent purposes (to obtain a daily update of
the extended dircat extract used by the IBM GNA sendmail relays). It
is also still on the internal VMTOOLS respository. I'll check with
Steve to see if it was ever made available externally. Although I
don't use it, it does seem to have the capability to accept certain
FTP commands on the seconday input stream.

 RE: FTP stage?

I installed my z/VM 5.2 using a FTP image that I stored on a Linux (or
 was it FreeBSD?) server.

When I say installed, I should add that I had to hack the REXX code
obfuscated in the filter package to make it work (if you look into the
module you'll soon find an entry point table; it is trivial to extract
the REXX programs from that). Whoever wrote that code has not read
RFC 959; or if read, certainly not understood.

I sent the hacked stages back to the lady who so kindly had provided
me with the image file. For all I know she tossed them. I have heard
no reports of improvement in those stages since then.

 ----

Steve Hayes wrote a FTP client stage some ten years ago; I do not know
whether it is floating around anywhere.

 ----

I beleive Romney's FTP subcommand processor is available from the
download page; I had to add code to CMS/COMMAND to tolerate it at some
 point.
