HELP PIPE FILESLOW tells me:
... When writing to a file with FILESLOW,
recno cannot be greater than one more than the number of records the file
contains.
By experiment, this appears to be untrue.
pipe literal whatever | fileslow foo bar a from 9999 fixed
created a sparse file for me:
li foo bar a (label
FILENAME FILETYPE FM FORMAT LRECL RECS BLOCKS DATE TIME LABEL
FOO BAR A1 F 9 9999 1 5/16/10 10:17:45 GIL191
Ready; T=0.01/0.01 10:18:0
PIPE AHELP MDSKSLOW mentions no such restriction. Other
drivers likely prohibit sparse files.
