I've done that; it's even on a group ID, not my personal ID.  But yet
I fear my Program Management would be very reluctant to add such a
dependency to products we sell.  I do use DIGEST MD5, and include the
checksums with products, and suggest to customers that they can verify
them with the Marist Runtime.  But that's optional; not a required
step in installation.

Thanks for the suggestions.  Your note will go forever in my
"Hints" mailfolder.

I'm well along to converting a second several hundred line EXEC
to a stage.  Again, minimalist; change the filetype and add
"address COMMAND" at the top; it remains largely procedural.
But now I can code an "addpipe" whereever that's overwhelmingly
the best approach.
