Hello Alan,

- Unfortunately, my test exec doesn't look right on the forum.
Its lines are too long and the "space" characters are not easy to see !
If you want to recreate-it, you can copy-paste the following 28 lines (which are all 43 non-space-characters long) and reformat them with :
"pipe < ... | join | change /_/ / | > ..."

I created these 28 lines with :
"pipe < myTestExec | pad 86 | change / /_/ | spill 43 | > ..."

- Indeed, I didn't suspect it could be an emulator problem.
I see the problem in 2 emulators, including IBM Personnal Communication v 5.9.

- I sent to John various screenshots, the test exec, the emulators I'm using. He'll see what he can do when he can.

Thanks
Michaël

I don't see any of these problems running QDI on QWS3270 4.5.4 terminal
emulator.

Subject: Re: [CMS-PIPELINES] QDI REXX Updated

Hello John,

(sorry to dig this old thread !)

I've just upgraded to the new QDI REXX and QDI XEDIT (I was using ~1997
versions !).

But I noticed some cosmetic problems in the new version :
A few characters of the qdi-ed displayed program are different from the
xedit-ed displayed program (whereas with the old QDI, I had no
difference (except the one due to the left margin of xedit)).

I'm using :
- the QDI REXX and QDI XEDIT from http://vm.marist.edu/~pipeline/#QDI
versions
- an EXEC filetype
- a variable format file (length = 85)
- a z/Vm system

Here's a condensed version of the rexx program where I noticed the
problems :

/*********************************************************************************/

   /*...................................*/
/*                             ABC   */
     "cccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccc"

    dddddddd = 'ADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD'   /*
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee */
    'ffff ',
      '.....'

/*                             FGH   */
                                                /*
rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr */
   /*zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz*/

The problems are :
- I can't see the C of ABC
- The "cccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccc" slides 2 characters to the left
- The '/' at the end of the e's is not displayed (whereas the '/' at the
end of the r's is)
- The f's slides 1 character to the left
- I can't see the H of FGH
- The r's slide to the left, and a space appears before the final '/'
- the z's slide to the left so much that the initial '/' is truncated

I left some redundancies if my test file, as what seems to be the same
problem for me may not be the case for you.

(by the way, thanks for QDI, that's a *very* useful tool !...)

If you can't reproduce the problems, I'll send you my test program by
email (sometimes, forums reformat text ...).

Regards,
Michaël
