Well, I decided to add a COUNT | VAR ... stage, which takes ADDPIPE
and SHORT out of consideration. I suppose with some SPECS I could
have avoided VAR. I'm too naive.

But another question: my pipeline writes the data body to *.OUTPUT.0:
and messages I generate to *.OUTPUT.2:. The caller may connect
either or both of these to CONSOLE. If both, I'd like the summary
to appear after the body. This seems to be unpredictable. But,
empirically, if I:

    select output 0
    sever output
    select output 2
    output 'Count was' whatever 'characters.'

Is this the best way to enforce this? Or is it just silly to try
to control the order in which parallel stages operate?

Thanks,
gil
