Simpler, just specify the number of characters in your set as the
modulus, then TRANSLATE all the characters generated to valid ones,
and JOIN 7 to build your 8-character name.

Use the ASIS operand of >SFS (even for files on minidisk) for that:

  ... | >sfs MiXeD cAsE A asis
