If you wish to omit a particular record, take/drop to taste.

If you wish to omit every nth record, it gets more interesting.  The
only simple idiom I can think of (n = 3):

   spec 1-* 1 write read 1-* 1 write read nowrite

Glen:  With only one stream, FANIN and FANINANY are eins Bier; they
both short the last remaining stream.
