I have never found a stage that will "conditionally join" this case. Is there one? For email, years ago, I did some joining based on MIME and RFC 822 (and following). The rule is that, in the header, if a line starts with white space it is considered part of the prior line. This was easy enough to do in REXX (but the effect is that the stage "delays the record"), so I never bothered to look for a built-in stage to do it. Once you're past the header, you can turn this off.
