Mike, did you consider to use lookup to replace the cascade? That should make 
it easy to terminate. Doesn't pipedemo change propagation of eof? I'd use 
listrc to check.

    Hello all,in the description of LITERAL (which includes STRLITERAL) I find>

Following pipelooks for only one of several tags located near the end in a 
quitelarge logfile to determine the next step. When I looked at it withPIPEDEMO 
I wondered as I assumed after any LOCATE got a hit TAKEwill end FANINANY and in 
consequence of it DISKBACK too. Alas theLOCATE/STRLITERAL branches stay alive
