Hi Ralph,

I've only had about 3 hours Contribute experience from a client site I'm building. The templates (with library items and editable regions) are built with Dreamweaver MX and the initial pages and content loading have been quickly and easily done with Contribute 2.

I love the idea behind Contribute. Locking down templates and allowing minimal-tech skilled users to update and create pages of their web site. But it's not a content management solution.

There are three methods of incorporating Office documents in Contribute: Insert the Contents, Insert the Document as FlashPaper (client jaw dropper) or Create a Link to the Document.

Alternatively, you can simply drag a file (such as a Word doc or PDF) onto the editing page and Contribute will convert it to FlashPaper and insert the swf into the page.

By inserting the content, all "mso-" styles are stripped and replaced with Contribute's own particular style of mark-up:

eg: <p style="margin-bottom:0;"><font face="Verdana" size="3">In the page that has been skipped TO <strong></strong></font></p>

Far from perfect, but maybe I need more time with it to get better results.

My suggestion is to take advantage of the full-featured Contribute 2 30 day trial (either by downloading from Macromedia, or if you are coming to MXDU next week look for the CD in your conference bag.) Have a play and see what it's like.

If you have any specific questions, just ask.

Cheers,

Ben

Does anyone know if Contribute does a Word->HTML conversion, and if so,
does it do a good job? My experience with Word->HTML conversions in the
past weren't good.
