I think I've found the reason for that. One way of fixing it is to add &KEY &ALLOW-OTHER-KEYS to the DEFGENERIC for MAKE-INSTANCE in pcl/generic-functions.lisp. That is ANSI and gives MAKE-INSTANCE the right type compiler-wise.
