FWIW, I chose KISS method and used 1/4" Amsteel for lowers as well as the
uppers.
Larger diameter will fit through the stanchions, but if you splice an eye
in the line, the diameter gets too big to pull through the hole in the
stanchion . So 1/4" seems to work best.

Tip 1: To get a soft Amsteel eye through a stanchion eye, use a short
length of smaller line like 1/8" cord, run it through the Stanchion hole
first, thru the eye in the Amsteel and back through the stanchion, pull the
two ends of the cord and the amsteel will squeeze through.
Tip 2: Don't lockstitch the splices until you are satisfied with the fit.
It's very easy to change the length of line by marking the change, pull the
tail out and rereeve the tail back in to correct the length.

Thanks everyone! I've decided to go with 1/4 in Amsteel Blue for the top
line and 3/16 for the lower line.
I'm hoping its as easy to splice as Samson makes it seem.
