Steve,
Got to be Joker valve as others suggested. Once a year and carry a spare. At
the risk of starting a debate- also be sure that you are using RV TP (or buy
Scot's 'Septic Tank' Safe for the equivalent but cheaper). It was an easier
solution than re-training the admiral. The incidents have diminished. At
least on my 35 it is quite possible to pretty much get the entire contents
of the holding tank back if the joker valve isn't working right. Had a long
blustery starboard tack back from Key West that proved that. Thankfully I
was on the helm at the time of discovery though I did have to pull the floor
board when back home. (Bleach is your friend) It is all well and good to
run the hose up toward the deck and then down into the tank - but if you
don't cross it to the opposite side it doesn't matter much if you are heeled
'the wrong way'. My stern manual bilge pump is crossed, as is the exhaust
for just such a reason but the head wasn't - guess the xtra hose represents
more issues (smell/ more hose for the stuff to sit in etc) than it is worth.
FWIW the 'locking handle' doesn't seem to do much in terms of backfilling
black water. Either the Joker valve is working or not. May be useful for
incoming water. I don't have the infill side hooked up but strictly use
fresh water (and you thought the sink faucet just pulled out for showering).
Needed the thru hull for the AC.
On the ATN Mast climber- I agree that getting down is harder than up. Secret
seems to be small increments. Think baby steps. I have the 'new' version
that hooks on to an existing line (I use the spin halyard). Got tired of
waiting to find someone with a thirst large enough to hoist me up. I can
crank the Admiral up and she even sort of likes the view but her skill set
is limited once she is at the top.

Trust ME!!! 35-3
