Monty,I've searched them on the web. I think we may have a winner. However,
I'll be sailing Lolita (happily) for a while yet. I'm quite content to learn
this boat, for a while, and make some changes in the layout. Karen has
forgiven her so I think I'm good for at least a few years. However, I'll be
researching this 34+ and trying to get on board one. I know at some point
we'll be wanting a bigger boat, especially as we do some longer cruising.
we'll nee A LOT more creature comforts. The Viking has virtually none. The
salon table was removed, no shower, no entertainment system, no climate
control. It's really more of a weekender with the need for shore amenities
right now. Then, I get a little concerned about updating it and whether or not
it will be worth it if we'll be upsizing in a few years. I do a guy who's
Viking 33 has hot and cold running everything and he basically day-sails and
spends his summers on the boat at his yacht club where he is on a dock and has
all the amenities he needs on shore. Thats a pretty good setup, but we're more
and more liking the whole cruising and visiting places. I don't think the
Viking is going to fill all our needs. It's too bad really cus I've grown
quite fond of the boat and I'm sure I will grow fonder as I get bugs worked out
and become more familiar with her sailing characteristics. As it is, I've only
had her out sailing 3 times and I'm pretty amazed at how she moves. I will need
to make some changes to the running rigging. Right now, The mainsail has to be
raised from on deck. I could use some advice in this regard. I'll take more
pics and post them. Danny

Danny,I second what Chuck says about the 34+. I've had mine for eight years
and am very pleased with the boat. It sails well and has a roomy cockpit and
interior. I'll be glad to provide more info if you're interested.

Danny,
You should check out the brochure for the 34+ (35.5' long), built between 1990
and 1995.
It has an amazing interior layout very similar to the 110, at half the price.

You can usually find them on Yachtworld, but not for long.

ooh...I wish there was a C&C 110 there...that might be the one! they only had
a 101 there.

I know we looked at a couple of older C&Cs she did like. We need to get inside
a 110, then sell everything, including the dogs, and get one of those, perhaps!

Replace the wife. Get a wealthy one who simply loves teak and the letters C&C
and you're a net winner.

Well,

It wasn't the Catalina that she liked.... It was the Dufour 36P at whopping
$290,000 uhhh...hm...

then the Junneau 37 came in 2nd in her book at a more reasonable (however,
unreachable) $175,000 base ewww

There was a beautiful Tartan 34 there at the drastically reduced price of
$265,000 sail-away today price!

It's funny but the wife really likes the look and clean white interiors of the
French Production boats. She has no interest at all in the Tartan, Sabre or
even Island Packet. She says she "hates" all the teak and can't stand the
smell of teak.

What is one to do? (not that I could afford a tartan or a sabre or and island
packet) There doesn't seem to be any compromise...its euro cruiser or
traditional...

It is easy to see why Benteau, Jenneau and Hanze are popular. You really get a
lot of boat for your money. What about the hardware? what about build quality?
those are hard arguments to make when you are talking about a $125,000
difference in the price of a similarly sized boat.

It makes an interesting conversation though...

I'd love to hear thoughts on this.
