I took the comment as satire indicating the Lat 38 editorial staff felt the
American media should have acknowledged the loss of live and damage in the
Caribbean.

One of the Lat 38 owners has a boat or two based in the Caribbean and is often
a cheerleader for the sail/charter industry there.

That Latitude 38 first sentence is pretty offensive if you think about it. 69
people die in the Caribbean but the official death toll doesn't start until the
American media starts paying attention?

I suspect they don't mean to come across as American-centric insensitive
pricks. But they did. Probably just sloppy writing.

Obviously financial pressures took over here. If you look at their FB postings
from Oct 25, it was clear that they knew about the storm before heading out.

Would the boat have been wrecked had they stayed in New London? Maybe... but if
they'd used the last few days to secure the boat rather than sail head first
into the shit, then maybe things would have turned out much better than they
did.

Probably not -- the captain is the one who's missing.
