Hi, Kate -- btw, it's Fred, not Frank… :^)

I thought the LF42 I saw was center-cockpit; but that may have been the LF43 I
looked at… my mistake.

If so, it may have been the 43 that seemed to be a bit of a tub. The 42, in
looking at photos online, looks like very much the same hull form as my LF38,
although it carries a bit more beam aft, which is a good thing, as the LF38 is
too pinched at the stern for decent cockpit locker storage and access to
mechanicals.

If there's been a lot of work done, it might very well be a good value at the
right price. Just make sure to have it looked over carefully by a reputable
surveyor, and spend time digging into storage cubbies, the bilge and the
mechanical spaces yourselves.

As far as the LF38 goes, there are several of us on the C&C list that can help
you with that. I moved up from my first sailboat (a 1981 C&C30mkI) about eight
years ago to my current 1979 LF38. The previous (first) owner had pretty much
not done anything to the boat in the decade or more before I bought her, so she
was in need of love. I haven't been able to do everything I'd like to, due to
financial constraints; but she's a great-sailing, very comfortable boat to
sail, and I can pretty easily handle her by herself. I cruise in the Apostle
Islands area of Lake Superior, but have taken the boat to Grand Marais on the
north shore; to the Keweenaw (Houghton/Hancock); and to Isle Royale.

If you want to see a really tricked out Landfall 38, go to www.wbryant.com --
Wal is on this list, but currently has the boat down in Mexico, where he's
cruised for the last couple of years. He's done just about everything to that
boat that one could do, and has done an amazing job.

And we would be well-served to keep all the traffic on the C&C list, for the
benefit of others.
