Bill,
Touche' has a Xantrex 1000 watt inverter installed and wired to the boat's
receptacles through a "Shore-Off-Gen" switch. The light strings were some I'd
had for years and were all incandescent bulbs drawing about 0.6 amps per
string. That's about 72 watts each (0.6 amps x 120 volts AC). There were 8
strings in all. The calculated current draw was 72 watts x 8 strings = 576
watts. The snowflake was purchased this year and was all LED lights. Its draw
would be another 7 watts.
When we fired everything up, the inverter was showing an actual current of
470-480 watts. During the parade we had to occasionally put the drive train in
neutral and rev the engine to generate enough current to maintain the batteries
above 12 volts DC without catching the boat ahead of us. LED lights would have
drawn much less total current.
A couple of the other boats had portable generators on deck.
