I built and sailed a F-31 tri for a few years and really loved the speed, but I would not go back (have a C&C35III now). I don't need to go 20kts to be thrilled, 7 or 8 knots is pretty fun and I don't have to be worried about flipping the boat, and I get to live in very civilized comfort when I get to where I'm going. However if straight speed is what you are looking for then some of the Tri's and Cat's out there are indeed quite a blast.
