My 26 had an old style greaser screwed into the rudder tube. The one you fill with grease and slowly turn occasionally. Many C&C's had them. Many owners have unscrewed them and screwed in a flexible grease line with a zirc fitting on the end. Mine comes up to a corner under the lazeratte seat so it's easy to get to.

Mine has had the grease fittings added too.  They are carefully wrapped with rubber protection after use so something wandering around down there in rough weather can't snap them off and create a leak.

I was thinking about some Jefa self aligning rudder bearings.  Overkill?  Not sure they'll even fit without major work.

Grease fittings....hmm...just drill a hole and tap it for a zirc?  I like it!  I'm thinking of using the same grease as for the max-prop.

Not certain what you have on your 37+ but the 34R came out during the same time from C&C and it has Delrin doughnuts for bearings.  The stainless steel shaft rides on delrin.  You can see a bulge in the rudder log where the bearings are.  I think earlier C&Cs had a fiberglass shaft, no bearings.  Some had grease fittings.

When I had some play in my system, I priced Delrin bearings, at $275 each.   Instead, I added grease fittings to mine.  The grease removed all play and the rudder is very reliable now.   I use a food safe, plastic safe, synthetic, white grease.

Anybody know anything about the rudder bearings on a 37+?  When I pulled the 24 year old rudder, the shaft had some scoring and wear grooves.  I looked up inside the "bearings" but couldn't tell if it was an actual bearing with rollers or just a bushing (rubber, fiberglass, bronze?).

Thanks,
