Mark, a few comments, if you end up moving the boat (transporting):
I bought a boat last year in Missouri (and I am in Ottawa). I ended up using uShip. - Check the quotes before you buy; you cost of transporting the boat might be a significant addition to your purchase price. In my case the quotes ranged from $2k to $12k (I am serious). Robert mentioned about it already... if you have time, you can wait for a combined transaction (they will try to have a full load each way and charge you less). - I also hired a border broker. The best investment of $200 I ever made (apparently in NS it is cheaper). The driver told me that he never sailed (pun not intended) so quickly through the border. All papers were ready; HST was paid. They took care of everything. - if you decide to use uShip, beware! There are good guys there and not so good guys. Caveat emptor. Check the references (maybe even follow up with customers) and don't send any money (cash) up front (credit card, PayPal are substantially better), unless you are prepared to lose it. If you need details contact me off the list. Marek (in Ottawa).
