I'll second what Fred said. The first race of the season is Memorial weekend and there have been years we had to cancel due to ice flows being in the way. That sucks. With how march has been so far, this year has all the makings of repeating that.
September is absolutely the best time IMHO. When October is good, it's really good. When it's bad, it's really bad.
