Re 295 uv: When I used this product my windows sealed well, but the very
expensive paint needed to make the sealant stick deteriorated badly where it
was not covered by 295. Interestingly, It was supposed to protect against
uv rays.

John,

I recently rebidded my head hatch plexi with 295UV. I find it very
interesting that the instructions asked me to paint over the sealant and the
plexi to keep UV rays from degrading the sealant. I guess 295UV is not too
UV resistant.

I am debating whether to use Plexus again or 295UV for my next window
project. I have both on hand. It would make for an interesting side by
side comparison, as I did the port side with Plexus last year.

It was not quick setting. One of the essential keys is the spacers between
the new glass and the hull frame so there is sufficient thickness of
sealant. We drilled small holes in each corner and used screws to
temporarily hold the glass in place while it cured. It is very sensitive to
shelf life, temperature and humidity. As I recall it also recommended the
boat be on the hard so there was no movement while curing and something like
a week to fully cure

Sikaflex has an excellent web site with very detailed instructions - highly
recommended reading
