Using zero scientific evidence at all, my boat and crew has determined that 2 knots is my breakpoint (upwind). When less than 2 knots, board all the way up. When greater, down all the way.
Up always when going downwind. When reaching, we figure that's downwind enough, so board up all the way. Unless we are tight reaching and having a hard time with rounding up, then we go 1/2 way down. Something about adding keel area near the back of the keel. -Keith M 35 mk3 CB -----Original Message----- From: Edd Schillay [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, May 30, 2013 15:44 To: [email protected] Subject: Stus-List Keel/Centerboard Racing Listers, For those of you with a keel/centerboard on their C&C, I would love to have some of your experience on when to deploy and when not to -- and if you ever use it partially. Most of the time, we're board-down for upwind sailing and board-up for downwind, but lately I'm noticing that in light air, it may make sense to keep the board up upwind to reduce drag. Or does part-way down make sense? What are your thoughts? All the best, Edd Edd M.
