Saw your reply about trying halyard tension. If you do have to unpin the
furler, here's some info.
I've got a rig blocked right now while we make a new forestay and install a new
furler.. Keel step masts don't need a tremendous amount of support. No need
to decrease tension on the shrouds.
1. Ease main sheet, topping lift, etc. then loosen the back stay until the
furler sags.
2. Attach a head sail halyard forward and out of the way of working on the
furler. If you use stem fitting, it may be in your way. Bow cleat will
probably work. I prefer not to use the toe rail unless I put a snatch block on
it and tie a bow line knot. Be sure to tape any snap shackles.
3. Tighten the head sail halyard very tight to pull rig forward
4. You should now be able to remove the pin holding the forestay/furler to the
stem.
