What other electronics have you got on the boat, specifically chartplotter/MFD? 
 They'll all talk to each other in some way, but if your MFD supports NMEA2000, 
for instance, you'd be better going that route for the AIS transponder, in my 
opinion.

I just sold a nice all-Raymarine setup to Lloyd Lippe on this list -- once he 
gets it all installed, he can chip in with his opinion.
