Beta diesels do indeed start life as Kubota industrial engines, as do most Universal and a few Westerbeke diesels. Maybe there are others as well.
Yanmar claims to be the largest diesel engine manufacturer in the world, and besides marine engines, they are used in forklifts, farm implements (some John Deere tractors, for example), lawn and garden implements, and so on.
