the “T” is a non-issue; the water pressure from the garden hose might be.

There is no way the water can enter through the intake through hull and flow 
across the engine to the muffler (the static pressure there is about 0.05 atm 
(<1 psi)). But a water under pressure (municipal water supply - 40 –75 psi/ 
2.5-5 atm) can easily get through the water pump (if it is not in pristine 
condition) and through the engine out to the muffler. If the engine is not 
working, there is nothing to push that water out and it can back up into the 
mixing elbow and to the exhaust manifold (and through an open exhaust valve 
into a cylinder).
