Jack,
Your idea to suggest a book is a good one for this list and this time of year.
Hopefully others will make suggestions?

A sailing book I enjoyed and would recommend is:
The Boat Who Wouldn't Float , by Farley Mowat, 1969.
A funny story about a guy buying a dilapidated wooden schooner from Nova
Scotia, dealing with constant leaks, booze smuggling, heavy drinking, and
eventually sailing her to Montreal, with man y funny episodes all along the
way. The book yeilds no help for do-it-yourselfers, but is simply fun to read.

For an interesting perspective, read a book called The Boy, Me and the Cat, by
Henry Plummer, about a 3,000-mile round trip in 1912-13 in a 24-foot catboat
along what is now the Intracoastal.

He did a lot of sailing because he didn’t have a choice.
